I Build Websites

In case you’ve ever wondered how I have so much time to devote to BJJ, the answer is that anyone can have a lot of time when they lose their job because the company they worked for went under.

That was several months ago, and in that time I’ve been enjoying using my free time to contribute to the BJJ community. But I’ve also been slowly running out of money. And with my major neck and groin injuries last month, and the $400 I spent getting them treated, I’ve been pushed ever closer to dead broke.

So I’m presented with two choices:

  1. Get a job at Starbucks.
  2. Earn a living online.

While I would love to serve tasty beverages, I’d prefer to keep working on this journal, producing instructionals and answering your questions (I get a lot of them).

Now, I could do something cheesy. I was thinking of a running fund raiser where you can sponsor my injuries to help cover my medical expenses. (“Sponsor Aesopian’s groin for only $10 a month!”)

I’m not saying I’m above that, but I do have services I can offer without begging outright yet.

Doing web design, for example.

Before BJJ, I was devoting the same energy to the research and practice of web design and search engine optimization. I hold several certifications in the area, including being a CIW Certified Internet Webmaster.

I’d love to build a website for you. You could have a journal like this, or a site for your school or club.

What kind of sites can I make? Well, you’re looking at one, but my best work is probably www.tampabjj.com.

I’m proud that my school’s site doesn’t look like it was made by one of its students. If you’ve seen even a few martial arts sites, you know what I mean.

I also stayed away from the heavy Flash animations and “HURRR WE’RE TUFF” attitude that a lot of school sites have. I’ve never been a big fan either of those things.

Here’s what you’ll get from me:

  • Your own blog or a site for your gym.
  • A clean and elegant design.
  • Search engine optimization.
  • To be able to update your own site.
  • Personal tech support.

I can work out registering a domain and getting you hosted too, if you need help with that.

I am also highly trained in usability and accessibility, which are fancy words for how easy a site is to use and how well it works for the disabled, such as the blind.

Your site will also be made with valid code, which is the nerd equivalent of saying “yours site will use proper technique”. This makes it easier to maintain in the future.

Contact me to discuss what you want and figure out a price. I’ve got very reasonable rates.

if you change the width of the td in #schedule to over 90ish, then the information in the table will center align in IE6. not sure if it will currently render correctly in IE7.

awesome site, and i love the tips!
